A new model for high school in Massachusetts

Located on the Lasell University campus in Newton, Felix combines flexible virtual coursework with in-person collaboration, college access, and personalized support. It is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and open to students statewide.

Felix delivers college-prep coursework through a personalized online platform inspired by the success of the Khan World School @ AUS Prep (KWS) model. Students:

  • Complete fully online core academics from anywhere

  • Move at a pace that aligns with their goals

  • Receive guidance from Massachusetts-certified teachers

  • Demonstrate mastery through meaningful feedback and revision

The hub at Lasell University enhances the virtual experience by providing students with a place to connect, build community, and learn in a university setting. On campus, Felix students enjoy access to the resources, support services, and enrichments that are typically only available to college students.

In-Depth Explorations (IDEs)

IDEs are multi-week projects driven by student interest. Students develop research skills and intellectual confidence as they:

  • Choose a topic they care about

  • Conduct research and analysis

  • Build a final product, including presentations, research papers, media projects, or other formats

  • Share their work with peers

Socratic Seminars

Socratic Seminars are structured, student-led discussions centered on real-world challenges.

Sample topics include:

  • How should we address homelessness in the United States?

  • Can you separate art from the artist?

  • Can we generate all of our electricity with renewables?

Students prepare and debate respectfully, strengthening their ability to listen, articulate, and defend ideas. These discussions develop communication skills and critical thinking that prepare students for college and the modern workforce.

Wonder Sessions

Wonder Sessions foster curiosity and cross-disciplinary thinking through interactive lectures and demonstrations. Students are challenged to think broadly and deeply as they explore questions like:
